چکیده

In this work, the optical properties of ptype silicon wafers, of various thicknesses, have been studied in the frequency range of 0.2 – 1.2 THz. It is seen that, for low resistivity silicon, the optical properties are dominated by the presence of dopants. The analysis technique deployed in the present work explores a general iterative procedure to determine the real and imaginary parts of the complex dielectric constant without utilizing Kramers-Kronig relationships. This study not only holds scientific relevance in material science but also opens up rich avenues for novel applications of terahertz spectroscopy to semiconductors.

Silicon beam splitter for far-infrared and terahertz spectroscopy.

Silicon beam splitters several millimeters thick offer numerous advantages over thin freestanding dielectric beam splitters. For routine spectroscopy for which resolutions of better than 1 cm(-1) are not required, a silicon beam splitter can replace several Mylar beam splitters to span the entire far-infrared region. In addition to superior long-wavelength performance that extends well into the...

Terahertz time-domain spectroscopy characterization of the far-infrared absorption and index of refraction of high-resistivity, float-zone silicon

The far-infrared absorption and index of refraction of high-resistivity, float-zone, crystalline silicon has been measured by terahertz time-domain spectroscopy. The measured new upper limit for the absorption of this most transparent dielectric material in the far infrared shows unprecedented transparency over the range from 0.5 to 2.5 THz and a well-resolved absorption feature at 3.6 THz. The...

Far-infrared vibrational modes of polycrystalline saccharides

We have measured the temperature dependence of the far-infrared vibrational modes of polycrystalline saccharide molecules in the frequency range 0.1–3.0 THz using a time-resolved terahertz spectroscopy system. Coherent measurement of the transmitted terahertz electric fields showed distinct absorption features, in both monosaccharides and disaccharides, originating from interand intra-molecular...

Terahertz conductivity of thin gold films at the metal-insulator percolation transition

Terahertz time-domain spectroscopy is used to measure the complex conductivity of nanometer-thick gold films evaporated on silicon substrates in the far-infrared spectral region from 0.2 to 2.7 THz. With increasing film thickness a characteristic crossover from an insulating to a conducting state via a percolation transition is observed. Of particular interest is the characteristic non-Drude be...

Polarization orientation dependence of the far infrared spectra of oriented single crystals of 1,3,5-trinitro-S-triazine (RDX) using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy.

The far infrared spectra of (100), (010), and (001)-oriented RDX single crystals were measured as the crystal was rotated about the axis perpendicular to the polarization plane of the incident radiation. Absorption measurements were taken at temperatures of both 20 K and 295 K for all rotations using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy. A number of discrete absorptions were found ranging from 10...
